About GCSFT
Our Story
Recreational Aviation is all about affordable flying, fun and the starting point for an aviation career.
Aircraft and pilots are regulated by Recreational Aviation Australia (RA-Aus), on behalf of CASA. Recreational Aviation Australia (RA-Aus) is Australia’s largest sport aviation organisation and is the main body in Australia responsible for administering ultralight, recreational and Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) operations. There are over 10,000 members and 3,500 registered aircraft.
RA-Aus aircraft are amongst the safest forms of transport available.
Gold Coast Sports Flying Training: Heckfield Airfield
Gold Coast Sports Flying Club was established on Heck Field near Jacobs Well in the 1980s.
Gold Coast Sports Flying Club was established on Heck Field near Jacobs Well in the 1980s. The members are a diverse group of aviators from all sectors of the sport. The club is proud to promote recreational flying in a safe environment and encourage aviators, of all ages, to learn to fly in this safe and friendly atmosphere.
Flight training is a natural expansion for any club, and we are proud to welcome new aviators and members to our family. Your training with GCSFT includes your initial student membership to Gold Coast Sports Flying Club as well as access to the recently upgraded club facilities and social activities. There are no additional landing fees and once qualified, you can hire the Club Aircraft at competitive rates if you become a full Member of the Gold Coast Sports Flying Club.
There’s nothing like the freedom that comes with being an aviator. If you’ve lived your life with your head turned to the sky, it’s time you take the leap and book in that lesson.

Gold Coast Sports Flying Training (GCSFT) – ( Gold Coast Sports Flying Trust trading as Gold Coast Sports Flying Training).
Gold Coast Sports Flying Training is an accredited Flight Training School (FTS) with Recreational Aviation Australia (RA-Aus) and we provide flying training in recreational aircraft. Our operations, training and aircraft are governed by RA-Aus.
RA-Aus administers ultralight, recreational, weight shift microlight and LSA aircraft. RA- Aus train and certify pilots, flying instructors and maintainers, register their aircraft fleet and oversee a large number of flight training schools across Australia. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia (CASA) sets the regulations and then works with self- administering organisations (such as RA-Aus) to ensure the regulations are applied and enforced.
By joining RA-Aus, your membership includes the issue of the Student Pilot Certificate and a host of other benefits which your instructor can describe. You can also find out more at www.raa.asn.au
In addition, you will also join the Gold Coast Sports Flying Club as a student member. This allows you to use the facilities of the Club during your learning-to-fly phases. Once you have gained your RPC, then you can convert your student membership into a full membership. You will be able to privately hire aircraft to fly or, who knows, maybe someday you’ll invest in your own personal aircraft!
